Srinagar, May 17 (KNO): Government of India (GoI) on Sunday notified new changes in registration for vaccine on CoWIN portal and further urged UTs and States to break the myth that the platform is biased to those abled by technology and requested them to make good use of facilitated cohort registration. Advisor to Lt. Governor Farooq Khan while speaking to news agency Kashmir News Observer-(KNO) said as far as the registration and vaccination for the people who are not tech savvy, the administration will make sure that no citizen’s health safety will be compromised. “I assure the public through your good office that the administration of Jammu and Kashmir will not lack in its response,” he said. “Not only ASHA workers or Anganwadi workers, there are also other departments who are on a field along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police department to help out people.” On 16 May, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, chaired a high-level video conference meeting with all the States/UTs and directed the using of services of ASHA workers and ANMs to mobilise eligible population for vaccination on pre-published date and time. An official from the Health Department told KNO that the guidelines from the Central government will be implemented in letter and spirit, as people who are not tech savvy while registering for vaccine, as per the directions, ASHA workers and ANMs will be mobilized. “Whatever the guidelines are, they are all in the interest of patient care,” he said. Earlier the Supreme Court had asked the centre to ensure that the people who are illiterate or do not have access to the internet are registered for vaccinations. News Agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), spoke to many people about the online registration for third phase of Covid vaccine and many people which included street vendors, hawkers, said they are either not carrying mobile phones or are struggling to register for the COVID-19 vaccine on the government's CoWIN website. “Accessing CoWIN is more difficult for those who do not own smartphones, as well as for a significant proportion of the valley's population who is less familiar with technology in general,” a student said.
